Gaillard family papers, 1795-1850.

Papers chiefly consist of financial records, including accounts, receipts, and tax returns. Also included is an anonymous journal (1817-1823) concerning shoes made for slaves. Gaillard family accounts (1843-1850) include those with the Charleston (S.C.) factorage firm of William Mazyck & Son; accounts of Thomas William Porcher, guardian of Harriet Porcher Gaillard (later Harriet Stoney), pertaining to expenditures for tools, taxes, overseers' wages, and clothing, food, and medical care for slaves at New Hope Plantation, and Harriet's personal expenses, mainly tutors and clothing; and a master-in-equity account (1843) for the sale of a house and lot in Charleston, S.C. Account book (1819-1826) of Peter Gaillard (1783-1843) records transactions with Charleston factorage firm of W.E. Snowden & Co. for supplies for Haydon Hill Plantation and other goods and services.
